Audio: HUD and FEMA officials discuss Sandy response
The Federal Emergency Management Agency has disbursed $199 million in individual assistance, $193 million of that in housing assistance, FEMA Administrator Craig Fugate told reporters during a Nov. 5 press call. Scroll down to the media player to listen to the call in full.
Although immediate problems like power outages continue to consume attention, problems of long-term housing are starting to come to the forefront as well.
During the call, Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said HUD has collected more than a thousand homes available for rent in areas impacted by Sandy on www.hud.gov/sandy.
Federal Housing Assistance lenders will also impose a 90-day moratorium on foreclosures in disaster-affected areas, Donovan said.
